The Five Elements

The five elements are:

Fire

Wood

Earth

Metal

Water

Ideally there should be a balance of all the elements. Where one dominates or is lacking, then difficulties occur. Interpreting and balancing the five elements plays a major part in the practice of Feng Shui.
A useful way of remembering this is by looking at the cycle in the following way.

Water enables Wood to grow.
Wood enables Fire to burn resulting in ashes or Earth.
Earth enables Metal to form.
